Raspberry Pi: Initial Install

As my aim was always to use more than one Raspberry PI, I wanted to be able to run them headless over my home network; i.e. without their own keyboard & monitor.

I use these instructions to get my Raspberry Pi installed and achieve the following:

  • Connected to my home network
  • Change the hostname as I’ll have more than one RPi
  • Add user accounts
  • Install and configure
    • SSH – Use putty to connect a secure terminal session to the Pi.
    • VNC – Use TightVNC to display the RPi’s graphical user interface over my network on another machine.
    • AutoFS – To connect to my Network Attached Storage.
